Die Grille musizierte		The cricket had sung her song

Und kam in Not und Leid,		but found her victuals too few

Von Würmchen oder Mückchen,		a single morsel of worm or fly.
Und Hunger klagend ging sie hin		Her neighbor, the ant, might,
Zur Ameis, ihrer Nachbarin,		she thought, help her in her plight,
Und bat sie voller Sorgen,		and she begged her for a little grain
