Jean de La Fontaine, | Jean de La Fontaine, | Jean de La Fontaine,
translated by Rolf Mayr | translated by Antoni Grabowski | translated by Donald P. Webb
The cricket had sung her song
den ganzen lieben Sommer lang | Cikadin'. | all summer long
und fand sich plötzlich sehr beklommen, | Kiam frosta vento blovis | but found her victuals too few
als der Nordwind war gekommen: | Sen provizo ŝin ektrovis, | when the north wind blew.
im Haus war nicht ein Bröselein, | Sen malgranda eĉ pecet' | Nowhere could she espy
Regenwurm und Fliegenbein. | Da muŝeto aŭ vermet'; | a single morsel of worm or fly.
Hunger schreiend lief sie hin | La malsato pelis ŝin | Her neighbor, the ant, might,
zur Ameis', ihrer Nachbarin, | Al najbara formikin'. | she thought, help her in her plight,
mit der Bitte, ihr zu geben | Kaj ŝi petis kun insisto: | and she begged her for a little grain
etwas Korn zum Weiterleben | "Donu grajnojn por ekzisto | till summer would come back again.
| “By next August I’ll repay both
Now, the ant may have a fault or two
Hauptstock, Zinsen und so fort." | La procenton kun valor'." | But lending is not something she will do.
She asked what the cricket did in summer.
By night and day, to any comer
"Was triebt ihr denn zur Sommerzeit?" | "Kion faris vi somere?" | I sang whenever I had the chance.”
fragt sie die Borgerin von fern. | Diris ŝi al pruntulino. | “You sang, did you? That’s nice. Now dance.”
"Gesungen habt Ihr? Ei der Daus, | --"Kantis? -- gaja jen meti'!
wohlan, so tanzet jetzt!" | Nun ekdancu post la kantoj!"
Translation of the French poem "La Cigale et la Fourmi" by Jean de La Fontaine (*1621-07.08 - †1695-04.12) into German by Rolf Mayr. | Translation of the French poem "La Cigale et la Fourmi" by Jean de La Fontaine (*1621-07.08 - †1695-04.12) into Esperanto by Antoni Grabowski (*1857-06-11 - †1921-07-04).
