Михаил Юрьевич Лермонтов,
Das Segel

translated by Konstantin Gusev   translated by A. Z. Foreman   translated by B. Denken

Blankadas velo unusola   A sail drifts white and on its own   Verloren glänzt in blauen Weiten
En la nebula mara blu'   Amid the light blue ocean haze.   Ein Segel weiß in dunst’gem Schein.
Ĉi kion lasis, kion volas   What does it seek in distant country?   Was sucht es nur in fernen Breiten?
En fremdaj landoj serĉi plu?   What made it leave its native bays?   Was ließ es Hort und Heim allein?

Ondiĝas kaj la vento spiras,   Great billows play. High winds are whistling   Es spiel’n die Wogen, Winde pfeifen,
Fleksante l'maston kun fervor',   Down at the bending, creaking mast   Es jammert, ächzt und knirscht der Mast –
Ve! Ne feliĉon vel' aspiras,   Oh! This one seeks no happy ending   Doch, ach! nach Glück will es nicht greifen
Nek de l'feliĉo kuras for.   And does not flee a happy past.   Noch ihm entflieh’n in blinder Hast.

Ĝin kovras blua rond' ĉiela,   Beneath, a brighter stream than azure.   Tief unten schäumt lichtblau die Flut,
Sub ĝi lazuras onda spac',   Above, the golden sunray flows   Hoch oben gleißen Sonnes Brände,
Sed ŝtormon serĉas ĝi ribela,   Yet this one, restive...quests for tempests   Doch sucht es mehr nach Sturmes Wut,
Kvazaŭ en ŝtormoj estus pac'.   As if in tempests were repose.   Als ob’s im Sturme — Ruhe fände.
