Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,	Aere fridetas, trankvilas,

La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas	The thirsty summits are drinking	La monto surpinte brilas
En vespersuna bril’.	The sunset's flooding wine;	vespere en rava scen'.

Belega knabino jen tronas	The loveliest maiden is sitting	Tre ĉarma feino sidas,
Kun ora juvelar’,	High-throned in yon blue air,	jen supre por ador';
La belan vizaĝon kronas	Her golden jewels are shining,	la ora ornamo ridas;
Mirinde la ora harar’.	She combs her golden hair;	ŝi kombas harojn el or'.

Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro	She combs with comb that is golden,	Ŝi kombas per ora kombilo
Kaj dume kantas ŝi.	And sings a weird refrain	kaj kantas kun pasi';
Mirige tuŝas al koro	That steeps in a deadly enchantment	mirigas min la elbrilo

Kaj sopiregon eksentas	The doomed in his drifting shallop,	Ŝipisto ŝipeton gvidas,

Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Mi kredas, ke ondoj tiras
Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,	So perish sailor and bark;	la ŝipon funden de l' Rejn';
Kaj tion kaŭzis feine	And this, with her baleful singing,	kaj tio de l' kant' eliras
