Aere fridetas, trankvilas,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,	Vesperascit et frigescit,	Jam fluas la Rejn' en malhelo,
malhelas jam la Rejn'.	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	And peaceful flows the Rhine,	Et Rhenus leniter it,	kaj malvarmetas l' aer'.
La monto surpinte brilas	per oro de l'sun' en vespero	The thirsty summits are drinking	Cacumen montis lucescit,	Sed brilas la mont' en orbelo

Li ja la rifojn ne vidas',	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	He sees not the yawing breakers,	Non videt scopulos ille,	Ne ĝenas lin rifo-kaskado,
li vidas nur supren sen halt'.	rigardas li al la kantanto.	He sees but the maid alone:	Ocli non si sursum vident.	rigardas nur supren al ŝi!

Mi kredas, ke ondoj tiras	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Opinor undas devorare	Ĝis tiras kun si al Rejn-fundo
la ŝipon funden de l' Rejn';	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	So perish sailor and bark;	Nautam cum navicula,	la ondoj lin kun boat'.
