Ne scias mi, kio okazis	Malgajon mi sentas en koro,	I cannot divine what it meaneth,
al mia tristema kor':	sed kial tia tim'?	This haunting nameless pain:
Antikva legendo min kaptis,	Legendo el pratempa foro	A tale of the bygone ages
ne cedas el mia memor'.	Vagadas tra mia anim'.	Keeps brooding through my brain:

La Rejno fluadas trankvile	Jam fluas la Rejn' en malhelo,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,
murmuras kiel mister',	kaj malvarmetas l' aer'.	And peaceful flows the Rhine,
la supron ŝtonegan orumas	Sed brilas la mont' en orbelo	The thirsty summits are drinking
sunbriloj de la vesper'.	pro suna lum' de l' vesper'.	The sunset's flooding wine;

Plej bela virgino jen sidas	Jen supre kabino provokas	The loveliest maiden is sitting
mirinda sur la montet'	per ora juvelar',	High-throned in yon blue air,
kaj ŝia oraĵo radias, ¹⁾	kaj ŝia beleco allogas	Her golden jewels are shining,
ŝi logas kiel magnet'.	kaj ŝia ora harar'.	She combs her golden hair;

Ŝi kombas la oran hararon	Ŝi kombas ĝin, kantas sorĉige,	She combs with comb that is golden,
abundan per ora kombil',	sirene kantas ŝi	And sings a weird refrain
kantante misteran lidon, ²⁾	per neimagebla, mirige	That steeps in a deadly enchantment
ravantan kiel sunbril'.	potenca melodi'.	The listener's ravished brain:

Ŝipisto en sia ŝipeto	Ŝipiston en eta boato	The doomed in his drifting shallop,
kaptiĝas per stranga dolor',	Turmentas koremoci'.	Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,
la rifon li tute ignoras.	Ne ĝenas lin rifo-kaskado,	He sees not the yawing breakers,
atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.	rigardas nur supren al ŝi!	He sees but the maid alone:

Mi kredas: la ondoj englutas ³⁾	Ĝis tiras kun si al Rejn-fundo	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-
ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	la ondoj lin kun boat'.	So perish sailor and bark;
kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	Nun kuŝas li en la profundo	And this, with her baleful singing,
kantado de la virin'.	pro Loreleja kantad'.	Is the Lorelei's gruesome work.

1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
