I cannot divine what it meaneth,	Ne scias mi, kial mi estas	Ne scias mi, kio okazis	Min kaptas malgaj' en la koro,	I do not know what it signifies.
This haunting nameless pain:	Malgaja en la kor’.	al mia tristema kor':	pro kio tia trist'?	That I am so sorrowful?
A tale of the bygone ages	Antikva fabelo restas	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	Fabel' el antikva foro	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Keeps brooding through my brain:	Por ĉiam en mia memor’.	ne cedas el mia memor'.	ne lasas de mi kun persist'.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

The faint air cools in the gloaming,	Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,	La Rejno fluadas trankvile	Aere fridetas, trankvilas,	The air is cool and it darkens,
And peaceful flows the Rhine,	Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,	murmuras kiel mister',	malhelas jam la Rejn'.	And calmly flows the Rhine;
The thirsty summits are drinking	La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas	la supron ŝtonegan orumas	La monto surpinte brilas	The summit of the mountain hearkens

Her golden jewels are shining,	La belan vizaĝon kronas	kaj ŝia oraĵo radias, ¹⁾	la ora ornamo ridas;	Her beautiful golden attire glances,

		1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
		2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
		3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
