Conrad Ferdinand Meyer,
Du veloj

Conrad Ferdinand Meyer,
Two sails

translated by Guido Holz   translated by Leland Bryant Ross

Du veloj ekhelas sur golfa lazur',   Two sails flashing bright on the royal-blue bay!
du veloj ekŝvelas al paca forkur'.   Two sails fill out tight and sail calmly away!

Se unu ekrondas per venta alblov',   When one in the breezes moves hither and yon,
la alia respondas per sama ekmov'.   The other with ease as its shadow responds.

Se unu impetas, duopas rapid',   If one wants to hasten, the other goes fast,
se unu kvietas, ripozas la amik'.   If one asks for quiet, its companion has rest.
