Amid the light blue ocean haze.	En la nebula mara blu'	Erglänzt ein Segel, weiß und weit -	Ein Segel weiß in dunst’gem Schein.
What does it seek in distant country?	Ĉi kion lasis, kion volas	Was trieb es aus dem Land der Seinen?	Was sucht es nur in fernen Breiten?
What made it leave its native bays?	En fremdaj landoj serĉi plu?	Was sucht es in der Einsamkeit?	Was ließ es Hort und Heim allein?

Great billows play. High winds are whistling	Ondiĝas kaj la vento spiras,	Es pfeift der Wind. Die Wellen drohen.	Es spiel’n die Wogen, Winde pfeifen,
Down at the bending, creaking mast	Fleksante l'maston kun fervor',	Es knarrt der Mast. Das Segel schwebt	Es jammert, ächzt und knirscht der Mast –
