Dein stilles Silberlicht		Lum' via de arĝent'
Erquickt mir mein Gesicht.		Lumanta en silent',
O Mond, Gedankenfreund.		Ho luno, pens-amik',
Ich sehe dich von weiten		Freŝigas min anime,
Und winke dich zu mir,		Dum mi rigardas vin,
Und bin nicht weit von dir.		Kaj vi alvidas min,
Und denk an schönre Zeiten!		Starantan malproksime.

Wer einst, du lieber Mond,		Ho kiu, kara lun',
In diesem Hüttchen wohnt,		Ekoloĝos post la nun',
Und sieht dein Silberlicht,		Kaj rigardante vin
Dem magst du keine Falten		En tiu ĉi dometo,
Auf ssiner Stirne sehn,		Li loĝu en trankvil'
Magst still vorübergehn		En la arĝenta bril'
Und ihn für glücklich halten.		Kaj vivu en kvieto.

Dass ich's nicht bin, sag' ich		Ke mi ja tiu ĉi
Nur dir und tröste mich, -		Ne estas, diras mi
O Mond, Gedankenfreund, -		Al vi, ho pens-amik'! -
Dass stille Nächte kommen!		Deziras mi trankvilon!
Dir nur vertrau' ich's, dir.		Konfidas mi al vi,
Schon manche Nacht hat mir		Ke konsoliĝas mi
Des Tages Gram genommen.		Vidante vian brilon.
