Sprung from a tender root,	op af den frosne jord,	aus einer Wurzel zart,
Of ancient seers' foreshowing,	alt som os fordum spåde	wie uns die Alten sungen,
Of Jesse promised fruit;	profetens trøsteord.	von Jesse kam die Art
Its fairest bud unfolds to light	Den rose spired frem	und hat ein Blümlein bracht
Amid the cold, cold winter,	midt i den kolde vinter	mitten im kalten Winter,
And in the dark midnight.	om nat ved Bethlehem.	wohl zu der halben Nacht.

2. The Rose which I am singing,	For rosen nu jeg kvæder	2. Das Röslein, das ich meine,
Whereof Isaiah said,	omkap med Himlens hær:	davon Jesaia sagt,
Is from its sweet root springing	en jomfru var hans moder,	ist Maria die reine,
In Mary, purest Maid;	Maria ren og skær.	die uns das Blümlein bracht.
