Malgaja en la kor’.	pro kio tia trist'?	This haunting nameless pain:
Antikva fabelo restas	Fabel' el antikva foro	A tale of the bygone ages
Por ĉiam en mia memor’.	ne lasas de mi kun persist'.	Keeps brooding through my brain:

Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,	Aere fridetas, trankvilas,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,
Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,	malhelas jam la Rejn'.	And peaceful flows the Rhine,
La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas	La monto surpinte brilas	The thirsty summits are drinking
En vespersuna bril’.	vespere en rava scen'.	The sunset's flooding wine;

Belega knabino jen tronas	Tre ĉarma feino sidas,	The loveliest maiden is sitting
Kun ora juvelar’,	jen supre por ador';	High-throned in yon blue air,
La belan vizaĝon kronas	la ora ornamo ridas;	Her golden jewels are shining,
Mirinde la ora harar’.	ŝi kombas harojn el or'.	She combs her golden hair;

Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro	Ŝi kombas per ora kombilo	She combs with comb that is golden,
Kaj dume kantas ŝi.	kaj kantas kun pasi';	And sings a weird refrain
Mirige tuŝas al koro	mirigas min la elbrilo	That steeps in a deadly enchantment
Sorĉiga la melodi’.	kaj forto de l' melodi'.	The listener's ravished brain:

Kaj sopiregon eksentas	Ŝipisto ŝipeton gvidas,	The doomed in his drifting shallop,
Ŝipisto dum sia vetur’;	lin kaptas ve' de ekzalt'.	Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,
Rifaron li ne priatentas,	Li ja la rifojn ne vidas',	He sees not the yawing breakers,
Al monto rigardas li nur.	li vidas nur supren sen halt'.	He sees but the maid alone:

Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine	Mi kredas, ke ondoj tiras	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-
Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,	la ŝipon funden de l' Rejn';	So perish sailor and bark;
Kaj tion kaŭzis feine	kaj tio de l' kant' eliras	And this, with her baleful singing,
La Loreleja kantad’.	de Lorelaj-siren'.	Is the Lorelei's gruesome work.
