Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,	Ne scias mi, kial mi estas	Ignoro, quid id sibi velit,
daß ich so traurig bin;	Malgaja en la kor’.	Tristissimus cur sim,
ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten,	Antikva fabelo restas	Antiqui aevi fabellam
das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.	Por ĉiam en mia memor’.	Cur saepe volverim.

Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,	Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,	Vesperascit et frigescit,
und ruhig fließt der Rhein;	Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,	Et Rhenus leniter it,
der Gipfel des Berges funkelt	La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas	Cacumen montis lucescit,
im Abendsonnenschein.	En vespersuna bril’.	Dum Phoebus occidit.

Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet	Belega knabino jen tronas	Sedet in summo montis
dort oben wunderbar,	Kun ora juvelar’,	Virgo pulcherrima,
ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,	La belan vizaĝon kronas	Auro nitet gemma frontis,
sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar.	Mirinde la ora harar’.	Se pectit auricoma.

Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme,	Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro	Aureolo pectine pectit,
und singt ein Lied dabei;	Kaj dume kantas ŝi.	Carmen canens procul,
das hat eine wundersame,	Mirige tuŝas al koro	Mirandum id habet modum
gewaltige Melodei.	Sorĉiga la melodi’.	Nec non virilem simul.

Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe	Kaj sopiregon eksentas	In cymba navitam mille
ergreift es mit wildem Weh;	Ŝipisto dum sia vetur’;	Angores feri tenent,
er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,	Rifaron li ne priatentas,	Non videt scopulos ille,
er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh.	Al monto rigardas li nur.	Ocli non si sursum vident.

Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen	Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine	Opinor undas devorare
am Ende Schiffer und Kahn;	Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,	Nautam cum navicula,
und das hat mit ihrem Singen	Kaj tion kaŭzis feine	Effecit solo canendo
die Lorelei getan.	La Loreleja kantad’.	Lurleia id dea.
