Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,	Ignoro, quid id sibi velit,	Ne scias mi, kial subita
daß ich so traurig bin;	Tristissimus cur sim,	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;
ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten,	Antiqui aevi fabellam	el tempo jam enterigita
das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.	Cur saepe volverim.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.

Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,	Vesperascit et frigescit,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,
und ruhig fließt der Rhein;	Et Rhenus leniter it,	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,
der Gipfel des Berges funkelt	Cacumen montis lucescit,	per oro de l'sun' en vespero
im Abendsonnenschein.	Dum Phoebus occidit.	la supro de l' monto rebrilas.

Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet	Sedet in summo montis	Plej belan knabinon mi vidas:
dort oben wunderbar,	Virgo pulcherrima,	en ora ornamo brilante,
ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,	Auro nitet gemma frontis,	sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,
sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar.	Se pectit auricoma.	la harojn mistere kombante.

Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme,	Aureolo pectine pectit,	La oran kombilon ŝi movas
und singt ein Lied dabei;	Carmen canens procul,	kaj kantas tra l' pura aero,
das hat eine wundersame,	Mirandum id habet modum	kaj forto mirinda sin trovas
gewaltige Melodei.	Nec non virilem simul.	en tiu ĉi kant' de l'vespero.

Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe	In cymba navitam mille	Ŝipet' iras sur la rivero,
ergreift es mit wildem Weh;	Angores feri tenent,	ŝipisto ektremis de l' kanto,
er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,	Non videt scopulos ille,	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero
er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh.	Ocli non si sursum vident.	rigardas li al la kantanto.

Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen	Opinor undas devorare	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela
am Ende Schiffer und Kahn;	Nautam cum navicula,	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;
und das hat mit ihrem Singen	Effecit solo canendo	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,
die Lorelei getan.	Lurleia id dea.	per sia mirinda kantado.
