Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,	Ne scias mi, kio okazis	I do not know what it signifies.	I cannot divine what it meaneth,
daß ich so traurig bin;	al mia tristema kor':	That I am so sorrowful?	This haunting nameless pain:
ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten,	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	A fable of old Times so terrifies,	A tale of the bygone ages
das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.	ne cedas el mia memor'.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.	Keeps brooding through my brain:

Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,	La Rejno fluadas trankvile	The air is cool and it darkens,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,
und ruhig fließt der Rhein;	murmuras kiel mister',	And calmly flows the Rhine;	And peaceful flows the Rhine,
der Gipfel des Berges funkelt	la supron ŝtonegan orumas	The summit of the mountain hearkens	The thirsty summits are drinking
im Abendsonnenschein.	sunbriloj de la vesper'.	In evening sunshine line.	The sunset's flooding wine;

Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet	Plej bela virgino jen sidas	The most beautiful Maiden entrances	The loveliest maiden is sitting
dort oben wunderbar,	mirinda sur la montet'	Above wonderfully there,	High-throned in yon blue air,
ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,	kaj ŝia oraĵo radias, ¹⁾	Her beautiful golden attire glances,	Her golden jewels are shining,
sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar.	ŝi logas kiel magnet'.	She combs her golden hair.	She combs her golden hair;

Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme,	Ŝi kombas la oran hararon	With golden comb so lustrous,	She combs with comb that is golden,
und singt ein Lied dabei;	abundan per ora kombil',	And thereby a song sings,	And sings a weird refrain
das hat eine wundersame,	kantante misteran lidon, ²⁾	It has a tone so wondrous,	That steeps in a deadly enchantment
gewaltige Melodei.	ravantan kiel sunbril'.	That powerful melody rings.	The listener's ravished brain:

Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe	Ŝipisto en sia ŝipeto	The shipper in the little ship	The doomed in his drifting shallop,
ergreift es mit wildem Weh;	kaptiĝas per stranga dolor',	It effects with woe sad might;	Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,
er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,	la rifon li tute ignoras.	He does not see the rocky slip,	He sees not the yawing breakers,
er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh.	atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.	He only regards dreaded height.	He sees but the maid alone:

Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen	Mi kredas: la ondoj englutas ³⁾	I believe the turbulent waves	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-
am Ende Schiffer und Kahn;	ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	Swallow the last shipper and boat;	So perish sailor and bark;
und das hat mit ihrem Singen	kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	She with her singing craves	And this, with her baleful singing,
die Lorelei getan.	kantado de la virin'.	All to visit her magic moat.	Is the Lorelei's gruesome work.

	1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
	2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
	3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
