Conrad Ferdinand Meyer,
Two sails

Conrad Ferdinand Meyer,
Du veloj

translated by Leland Bryant Ross   translated by Guido Holz

Two sails flashing bright on the royal-blue bay!   Du veloj ekhelas sur golfa lazur',
Two sails fill out tight and sail calmly away!   du veloj ekŝvelas al paca forkur'.

When one in the breezes moves hither and yon,   Se unu ekrondas per venta alblov',
The other with ease as its shadow responds.   la alia respondas per sama ekmov'.

If one wants to hasten, the other goes fast,   Se unu impetas, duopas rapid',
If one asks for quiet, its companion has rest.   se unu kvietas, ripozas la amik'.
