Arabella Katherine Hankey,
Tell me the old, old story

Arabella Katherine Hankey,
Diru la historion pri Kristo nun al mi

    translated by Agnes B. Deans

Tell me the old, old story of unseen things above,   Diru la historion pri Kristo nun al mi;
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.   Rakontu plene ĉion pri lia am' por ni.
Tell me the story simply, as to a little child,   Kvazaŭ al juninfano rakontu simple ĝin—
For I am weak and weary, and helpless and defiled.   Anima la malsano jam ellacigis min.
Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,   Karan la historion, karan la historion,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.   Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.

Tell me the story slowly, that I may take it in,   Klare kaj malrapide vi komprenigu min
That wonderful redemption, God’s remedy for sin.   Pri Dia elaĉeto por senpekigi nin,
Tell me the story often, for I forget so soon;   Por ke la scio bena restadu en memor':
The early dew of morning has passed away at noon.   La roso frumatena tagmeze pasas for.
Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,   Karan la historion, karan la historion,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.   Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.

Tell me the story softly, with earnest tones and grave;   Pri la Animsavinto solene diru vi;
Remember I’m the sinner whom Jesus came to save.   Mi estas la pekinto por kiu mortis li.
Tell me the story always, if you would really be,   Ĉiam pri li parolu kun amo kaj fervor',
In any time of trouble, a comforter to me.   Kaj tiel min konsolu, se premas min dolor'.
Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,   Karan la historion, karan la historion,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.   Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.

Tell me the same old story when you have cause to fear   Diru la saman veron, se iam timos vi,
That this world’s empty glory is costing me too dear.   Ke vantan mondprosperon tro kare gajnas mi.
Yes, and when that world’s glory is dawning on my soul,   Kiam, en la horo, Jordano frontos min,
Tell me the old, old story: “Christ Jesus makes thee whole.”   Mi aŭdu en la gloro: "Jesuo savas vin".
Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,   Karan la historion, karan la historion,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.   Karan la historion rakontu nun.
