Arabella Katherine Hankey,
Diru la historion pri Kristo nun al mi

Arabella Katherine Hankey,
Tell me the old, old story

translated by Agnes B. Deans

Diru la historion pri Kristo nun al mi;   Tell me the old, old story of unseen things above,
Rakontu plene ĉion pri lia am' por ni.   Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
Kvazaŭ al juninfano rakontu simple ĝin—   Tell me the story simply, as to a little child,
Anima la malsano jam ellacigis min.   For I am weak and weary, and helpless and defiled.
Karan la historion, karan la historion,   Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.   Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

Klare kaj malrapide vi komprenigu min   Tell me the story slowly, that I may take it in,
Pri Dia elaĉeto por senpekigi nin,   That wonderful redemption, God’s remedy for sin.
Por ke la scio bena restadu en memor':   Tell me the story often, for I forget so soon;
La roso frumatena tagmeze pasas for.   The early dew of morning has passed away at noon.
Karan la historion, karan la historion,   Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.   Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

Pri la Animsavinto solene diru vi;   Tell me the story softly, with earnest tones and grave;
Mi estas la pekinto por kiu mortis li.   Remember I’m the sinner whom Jesus came to save.
Ĉiam pri li parolu kun amo kaj fervor',   Tell me the story always, if you would really be,
Kaj tiel min konsolu, se premas min dolor'.   In any time of trouble, a comforter to me.
Karan la historion, karan la historion,   Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Karan la historion rakontu nun al mi.   Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

Diru la saman veron, se iam timos vi,   Tell me the same old story when you have cause to fear
Ke vantan mondprosperon tro kare gajnas mi.   That this world’s empty glory is costing me too dear.
Kiam, en la horo, Jordano frontos min,   Yes, and when that world’s glory is dawning on my soul,
Mi aŭdu en la gloro: "Jesuo savas vin".   Tell me the old, old story: “Christ Jesus makes thee whole.”
Karan la historion, karan la historion,   Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Karan la historion rakontu nun.   Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.
