Ne scias mi, kial mi estas	Ne scias mi, kio okazis	I do not know what it signifies.
Malgaja en la kor’.	al mia tristema kor':	That I am so sorrowful?
Antikva fabelo restas	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Por ĉiam en mia memor’.	ne cedas el mia memor'.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,	La Rejno fluadas trankvile	The air is cool and it darkens,
Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,	murmuras kiel mister',	And calmly flows the Rhine;
La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas	la supron ŝtonegan orumas	The summit of the mountain hearkens

Belega knabino jen tronas	Plej bela virgino jen sidas	The most beautiful Maiden entrances
Kun ora juvelar’,	mirinda sur la montet'	Above wonderfully there,
La belan vizaĝon kronas	kaj ŝia oraĵo radias, ¹⁾	Her beautiful golden attire glances,
Mirinde la ora harar’.	ŝi logas kiel magnet'.	She combs her golden hair.

Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro	Ŝi kombas la oran hararon	With golden comb so lustrous,
Kaj dume kantas ŝi.	abundan per ora kombil',	And thereby a song sings,
Mirige tuŝas al koro	kantante misteran lidon, ²⁾	It has a tone so wondrous,

Kaj sopiregon eksentas	Ŝipisto en sia ŝipeto	The shipper in the little ship

Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,	ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	Swallow the last shipper and boat;
Kaj tion kaŭzis feine	kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	She with her singing craves

	1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
	2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
	3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
