One night, a banshee slunk away		Un loup-garou, une certaine nuit,

upon his grave stone with its plate		Laissa sa moitié et puis se rendit
and to the apparition said		Auprès de la tombe d’un maître d’école
who meekly knelt before the dead:		Et lui dit, “ sur moi dis tout, c’est ton rôle ! ”

“The banSHEE, in the subject’s place;		“ - On peut à ton sujet puisque nous y sommes
the banHERS, the possessive case.		Se demander encor bien des choses en somme.
The banHER, next, is what they call		Loup-garoù ? mais avant
objective case--and that is all.”		Il faut se dire : loup-garquand ?

The banshee marveled at the cases		Loup-garcomment ? et puis
and writhed with pleasure, making faces,		Bien évidemment loup-garqui ? ”
but said: “You did not add, so far,		Toutes ces questions semblèrent au loup bien absconses,
the plural to the singular!”		Car en fait ce qu’il voulait c’était les réponses.

The teacher, though, admitted then		“ - Point de réponses, dit le puits de savoir,
that this was not within his ken.		Etre imaginaire, nul ne peut te voir ! ”
“While bans are frequent”, he advised,		A ces mots l’animal éclata tout en larmes.
“A she cannot be plurized.”		“ - Oh!, même les baisers de ma douce moitié

The banshee, rising clammily,		Ne pourrons plus me faire me sentir tout entier.
wailed: “What about my family?”		Rester un loup-garou est un sort qui m’alarme. ”
Then, being not a learned creature,		Mais comme le loup était bien poli
said humbly “Thanks” and left the teacher.		Il remercia et puis repartit.
