Un loup-garou, une certaine nuit,		One night, a banshee slunk away
Laissa sa moitié et puis se rendit		from mate and child, and in the gloom
Auprès de la tombe d’un maître d’école		went to a village teacher’s tomb,
Et lui dit, “ sur moi dis tout, c’est ton rôle ! ”		requesting him: “Inflect me, pray.”

Un loup-garou, une certaine nuit,		The village teacher climbed up straight
Laissa sa moitié et puis se rendit		upon his grave stone with its plate
Auprès de la tombe d’un maître d’école		and to the apparition said
Et lui dit, “ sur moi dis tout, c’est ton rôle ! ”		who meekly knelt before the dead:

“ - On peut à ton sujet puisque nous y sommes		“The banSHEE, in the subject’s place;
Se demander encor bien des choses en somme.		the banHERS, the possessive case.
Loup-garoù ? mais avant		The banHER, next, is what they call
Il faut se dire : loup-garquand ?		objective case--and that is all.”

Loup-garcomment ? et puis		The banshee marveled at the cases
Bien évidemment loup-garqui ? ”		and writhed with pleasure, making faces,
Toutes ces questions semblèrent au loup bien absconses,		but said: “You did not add, so far,
Car en fait ce qu’il voulait c’était les réponses.		the plural to the singular!”

“ - Point de réponses, dit le puits de savoir,		The teacher, though, admitted then
Etre imaginaire, nul ne peut te voir ! ”		that this was not within his ken.
A ces mots l’animal éclata tout en larmes.		“While bans are frequent”, he advised,
“ - Oh!, même les baisers de ma douce moitié		“A she cannot be plurized.”

Ne pourrons plus me faire me sentir tout entier.		The banshee, rising clammily,
Rester un loup-garou est un sort qui m’alarme. ”		wailed: “What about my family?”
Mais comme le loup était bien poli		Then, being not a learned creature,
Il remercia et puis repartit.		said humbly “Thanks” and left the teacher.
