Ne scias mi, kial subita	Min kaptas malgaj' en la koro,	I do not know what it signifies.
malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	pro kio tia trist'?	That I am so sorrowful?
el tempo jam enterigita	Fabel' el antikva foro	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
legendo al mi reviviĝis.	ne lasas de mi kun persist'.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	Aere fridetas, trankvilas,	The air is cool and it darkens,
la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	malhelas jam la Rejn'.	And calmly flows the Rhine;
per oro de l'sun' en vespero	La monto surpinte brilas	The summit of the mountain hearkens
la supro de l' monto rebrilas.	vespere en rava scen'.	In evening sunshine line.

Plej belan knabinon mi vidas:	Tre ĉarma feino sidas,	The most beautiful Maiden entrances
en ora ornamo brilante,	jen supre por ador';	Above wonderfully there,
sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,	la ora ornamo ridas;	Her beautiful golden attire glances,
la harojn mistere kombante.	ŝi kombas harojn el or'.	She combs her golden hair.

La oran kombilon ŝi movas	Ŝi kombas per ora kombilo	With golden comb so lustrous,
kaj kantas tra l' pura aero,	kaj kantas kun pasi';	And thereby a song sings,
kaj forto mirinda sin trovas	mirigas min la elbrilo	It has a tone so wondrous,
en tiu ĉi kant' de l'vespero.	kaj forto de l' melodi'.	That powerful melody rings.

Ŝipet' iras sur la rivero,	Ŝipisto ŝipeton gvidas,	The shipper in the little ship
ŝipisto ektremis de l' kanto,	lin kaptas ve' de ekzalt'.	It effects with woe sad might;
kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	Li ja la rifojn ne vidas',	He does not see the rocky slip,
rigardas li al la kantanto.	li vidas nur supren sen halt'.	He only regards dreaded height.

Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	Mi kredas, ke ondoj tiras	I believe the turbulent waves
perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	la ŝipon funden de l' Rejn';	Swallow the last shipper and boat;
ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	kaj tio de l' kant' eliras	She with her singing craves
per sia mirinda kantado.	de Lorelaj-siren'.	All to visit her magic moat.
