Tristissimus cur sim,	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	That I am so sorrowful?
Antiqui aevi fabellam	el tempo jam enterigita	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Cur saepe volverim.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

Vesperascit et frigescit,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	The air is cool and it darkens,
Et Rhenus leniter it,	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	And calmly flows the Rhine;
Cacumen montis lucescit,	per oro de l'sun' en vespero	The summit of the mountain hearkens
Dum Phoebus occidit.	la supro de l' monto rebrilas.	In evening sunshine line.

Sedet in summo montis	Plej belan knabinon mi vidas:	The most beautiful Maiden entrances
Virgo pulcherrima,	en ora ornamo brilante,	Above wonderfully there,

Se pectit auricoma.	la harojn mistere kombante.	She combs her golden hair.

Aureolo pectine pectit,	La oran kombilon ŝi movas	With golden comb so lustrous,
Carmen canens procul,	kaj kantas tra l' pura aero,	And thereby a song sings,
Mirandum id habet modum	kaj forto mirinda sin trovas	It has a tone so wondrous,

In cymba navitam mille	Ŝipet' iras sur la rivero,	The shipper in the little ship

Effecit solo canendo	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	She with her singing craves
Lurleia id dea.	per sia mirinda kantado.	All to visit her magic moat.
