Kaj profundiĝas la senlum'.		The darkness falls at Thy behest;
Vi gardis nin de ajn doloro.		To Thee our morning hymns ascended,
Nin gardu ankaŭ dum noktum'!		Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

2. Ni rotacias en la tagon.		2. We thank Thee that Thy church, unsleeping,
En nokta paco dormas ni.		While earth rolls onward into light,
Kaj portas lumon trans la maro		Through all the world her watch is keeping,
La suno, kie brilas ĝi.		And rests not now by day or night.

3. Senĉese kiel la mateno		3. As o’er each continent and island
Briladas super tera rond',		The dawn leads on another day,
Eksonas laŭdo pro la beno		The voice of prayer is never silent,
Al ĉiu sur la vasta mond'.		Nor dies the strain of praise away.

4. La suno, kiu ĵus subiris,		4. The sun that bids us rest is waking
Ja brilas en plu fora land'!		Our brethren ’neath the western sky,
La gloron, kiun ni admiris,		And hour by hour fresh lips are making

5. Pereas regnoj. Tiel estu!		5. So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never,

Übersetzung des englischen Gedichtes "The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended" von John Ellerton (*1826-12-16 - †1893-06-15) ins Esperanto durch Frieder Weigold. Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, ricevis tiun ĉi tradukon de la kanto en 2008-11-06 de sinjoro Frieder Weigold (Birkenstr. 12, D-82178 Puchheim, Germanio), kiu mem faris la tradukon en Esperanto. S-ano Weigold verkis tiun tradukon - kiel li diris al mi - laŭ la germanigo farita de s-ro Raymund Weber.
