De l' sendormulo suno, fora stel',		Sun of the Sleepless! melancholy star!
Vi tremas larme en la nokt-malhel'.		Whose tearful beam glows tremulously far,
Simbolo estas vi de l' nokta hor',		That show’st the darkness thou canst not dispel,
Egalas tute de l' feliĉ' memor'.		How like art thou to Joy remembered well!
Ĉar tute same brilas lumo de		So gleams the past, the light of other days,
Pasintaj tagoj, sed varmigas ne.		Which shines but warms not with its powerless rays:
Ĝin klare enaere vidas mi,		A night-beam Sorrow watcheth to behold,
Sed fride el la foro lumas ĝi.¹⁾²⁾		Distinct, but distant – clear – but, oh, how cold!
