So gleams the past, the light of other days,		Ĉar tute same brilas lumo de
Which shines but warms not with its powerless rays:		Pasintaj tagoj, sed varmigas ne.
A night-beam Sorrow watcheth to behold,		Ĝin klare enaere vidas mi,
Distinct, but distant – clear – but, oh, how cold!		Sed fride el la foro lumas ĝi.¹⁾²⁾
