tradukita de Bertilo Wennergren   tradukita de R. Platteau   tradukita de Alexander Gross

Ein Werwolf eines Nachts entwich   Jen lupfantom’ de famili’   Un loup-garou, une certaine nuit,   A Werewolf, troubled by his name,
von Weib und Kind und sich begab   meznokte iam kuris for   Laissa sa moitié et puis se rendit   Left wife and brood one night and came
und bat ihn: „Bitte, beuge mich!“   kaj petis pri konjugaci’.   Et lui dit, “ sur moi dis tout, c’est ton rôle ! ”   The aid of a long-dead philologist.

Der Dorfschulmeister stieg hinauf   Do diktis tiu dokta ul’   Un loup-garou, une certaine nuit,   “Oh sage, wake up, please don’t berate me,”
auf seines Blechschilds Messingknauf   starante sur la kructabul’   Laissa sa moitié et puis se rendit   He howled sadly, “Just conjugate me.”
The seer arose a bit unsteady
”   Yawned twice, wheezed once, and then was ready.

„Der Werwolf“ – sprach der gute Mann,   De “lupfantomo”, simpla rekta,   “ - On peut à ton sujet puisque nous y sommes   “Well, ‘Werewolf’ is your plural past,
While ‘Waswolf’ is singularly cast:
dem Werwolf, Dativ, wie man’s nennt,   plu “lupfontomo”, iom rara,   Loup-garoù ? mais avant   There’s ‘Amwolf’ too, the present tense,
And ‘Iswolf,’ ‘Arewolf’ in this same sense.”

Dem Werwolf schmeichelten die Fälle   Ĉi participoj plaĉis multe   Loup-garcomment ? et puis   “I know that--I’m no mental cripple--
”   The future form and participle
„Indessen“, bat er, „füge doch   ĝi petis: “Legu plu el PIV-o   Toutes ces questions semblèrent au loup bien absconses,   Are what I crave,” the beast replied.
The scholar paused--again he tried:

It’s just too long:
gestehn, dass er von ihr nichts wusste.   “Jam fermis mi per fin’ kaj amen,   Etre imaginaire, nul ne peut te voir ! ”   ‘Shall-be-wolf?’ ‘Has-been-wolf?’ Utterly wrong!
Such words are wounds beyond all suture--
“ - Oh!, même les baisers de ma douce moitié   I’m sorry, but you have no future.”

Der Wolf erhob sich tränenblind –   Sed lupfantomo pri transiro   Ne pourrons plus me faire me sentir tout entier.   The Werewolf knew better--his sons still slept
”   At home, and homewards now he crept,
Doch da er keine Gelehrter eben,   La lup’ revenis larmokula   Mais comme le loup était bien poli   Happy, humble, without apology
so schied er dankend und ergeben.   al sia famili’ ulula.   Il remercia et puis repartit.   For such folly of philology.
