Lum' via de arĝent'		Dein stilles Silberlicht
Lumanta en silent',		Erquickt mir mein Gesicht.
Ho luno, pens-amik',		O Mond, Gedankenfreund.
Freŝigas min anime,		Ich sehe dich von weiten
Dum mi rigardas vin,		Und winke dich zu mir,
Kaj vi alvidas min,		Und bin nicht weit von dir.
Starantan malproksime.		Und denk an schönre Zeiten!

Ho kiu, kara lun',		Wer einst, du lieber Mond,
Ekoloĝos post la nun',		In diesem Hüttchen wohnt,
Kaj rigardante vin		Und sieht dein Silberlicht,
En tiu ĉi dometo,		Dem magst du keine Falten
Li loĝu en trankvil'		Auf ssiner Stirne sehn,
En la arĝenta bril'		Magst still vorübergehn
Kaj vivu en kvieto.		Und ihn für glücklich halten.

Ke mi ja tiu ĉi		Dass ich's nicht bin, sag' ich
Ne estas, diras mi		Nur dir und tröste mich, -
Al vi, ho pens-amik'! -		O Mond, Gedankenfreund, -
Deziras mi trankvilon!		Dass stille Nächte kommen!
Konfidas mi al vi,		Dir nur vertrau' ich's, dir.
